Nichole DeMentGuest artist - October 2003
Nichole DeMent is a photographic artist in Seattle, Washington. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from The Evergreen State College in 2002 with a focus on Photography and Art History. She has exhibited her photographs in solo and group shows including Seattle's Center on Contemporary Art.
Nichole's photographs are powerful contemporary imagery where cross-processing and advanced darkroom techniques lend strong colors to soft, classical subjects. Her series, "to anima, to animus," utilizes the colors of white and red to play the role of the feminine and masculine aspects within a personality. The series is a discourse between Carl Jung's concept of animus, masculine, and anima or feminine. Individually, the winged subjects request internal contemplation of the potential within each human. Together, their dialogue creates the Whole.
